MEMBER SPOTLIGHT SEPTEMBER 2017
BEAVERS TIE & LUMBER CO.
Opened in 1978 in the small town of Westpoint TN, entrepreneur Jim Beavers founded Beavers Tie & Lumber, where his sister, Jenny joined him in 1979.
In 1980, he moved operations of the business to the Chalk Creek community just South of Waynesboro where it still stands today, not without challenges. On April 16, 1998, the “forgotten F5” tornado that came through Wayne County completely leveled the business, along with many residences. Curtis Lumber Company, located in Crump, TN, was generous enough to let Jim set up business to continue production as usual. The outpouring support from the competitor during this time is beyond generous. No layoffs for any employees in the 6 weeks it took to rebuild.
Beavers Tie & Lumber provides over a million feet of hardwood a month to the Southeast and Midwest part of the United states and purchases their hardwood lumber from 20 different sawmills in 3 states.
This business has 18 employees presently and are actively involved in The Butterfly Foundation year-round.
Wayne County is recognized as a Silver Level TVA Sustainable Community. Click Here for more info.
